Good stuff for the creative.

I listened to a random speach the other day from Steve Jobs.  I loved the things in the speach especially the thing he says to himself everyday for the past 30 years.  "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.  This is the best way to say be creative and keep recreating yourself each day of your life.  I hope I can try to do this in my work, and my art, and in every aspect of me.  I think I need to hand this above the bathroom mirror untill I begin to say this to myself as I walk through life.  I think that would make a huge difference in the things I do.   Look for something to inspire you today.

Latest art Happenings

Well I just had a few pieces of mine put in an art show. The show was called art $100 and under.  So I created a small art piece of an old man and a larger canvas piece of a girl spray painting and then a few of my sketches that I like.  I felt really fortunate that I was invited to show work in Jeff's awesome gallery. He is a great guy and the show was really fun with a lot of people there.  With the down pour of rain that day I didn't expect such a turn out.  I would like to thank my friends for showing up as well the art show is what I love. It's what i live for as an artist the chance to show my work and talk about it to others.

Check out Jeff Clausen's Gallery Blog there is a few pictures of my work in the photo's he took. http://jeffclaassen.com/blog/

If your interested in this painting it is $100 go to Jeff's blog to purchase. Look at the other talented artists too.  Some of these paintings are less than a tank of gas so ride your bike for a week and buy a painting.  Priorities people:)

Chapter Newest: The Best Day

Friday 2/26/10 was one of the best days of my life.  I got up around 8 no work because I planned to take it off.  I went down to SLO with a plan in mind. That plan was to get engaged. I had chalk left over from I Madonnari the year before. I wrote on a sidewalk under a bridge we walk on often it said" Alyssa will you marry me?"  This was written on a bridge that me and Alyssa walk on frequently. I spent the whole morning drawing and praying that it wouldn't rain until 5;30. Many people said I was crazy because the weather would ruin the whole thing. But I worked as if it was not going to rain, I show up for the date to take Alyssa to dinner at 5:20 and she is still getting ready.  5:30 strikes and it is starting to sprinkle, and I was like Alyssa it's starting to rain we don't want to be late. She assured me she had an umbrella and it was ok, I agreed:)  Needless to say she was ready moments later, 1st miracle.  We walked up the bridge I hid the ring earlier on one of my shirt buttons for easy access, no fiddling in the pockets for me. we rounded the corner of the sidewalk chalk drawing, rain is coming down rather strong. I pull the umbrella to the side and say what is that down there, Alyssa looks at the chalk which was still there (miracle #2) and I get down on one knee and say will you marry me.  She hugs and kisses me and says Yes!!!  (miracle #3).
Other unique miracles through out the day was just the kindness of others. I has a coffee house owner take my picture outside and offer me free desert when we stopped by later in the evening.  She was so nice to me and Alyssa and when we stopped by and ordered drinks she said everything is on the house.   The final great part to this wonderful day was I received news that I got the house I have been trying to get now I just need it inspected and it is mine if I want it.  To much good in one day doesn't kill a man it only makes him humbler. I love the way good things start happening as you yourself try to be good.

Chapter 1/2- Shall Not I Spare Nineveh?

Flash back last year. This was one of my more successful paintings.  It was giving exposure in; Central Coast Magazine and the local New Times. At first I wasn't super impressed with it, but entered it in a art show and ended up winning first prize for it. That gave me a second wind in my art. When I was beginning to think art was a waste of time for me. Needless to say my heart and mind has changed. This painting is titled, Shall not I spare Nineveh? This is what God said to Jonah when he was bitter waiting for God to destroy a people he thought wicked. In this question he is asking Jonah if he should spare him in a sense. If he could not have a forgiving heart how could he approach goodness, or God. I believe this story is pertainant to all of us to move on from anything from our past that holds us down we have to forgive and move on.
